Top O Michigan has served rural northern Michigan's electricity needs since 1938. It currently serves more than 44,000 customers in 12 counties of northwestern lower peninsula. It is a non-profit cooperative that pays its profits back to its members in proportion to the amount they paid for electricity.

As of January 1, 1999, Top O Michigan merged with two other cooperatives to create Great Lakes Energy.
