Helpful Tips & Lists
Tips:
  1. Make sure you love the person, and that you have spent enough time with them to know that you want to live with them, and spend the rest of your life with them. If you or your potential fiancé(e) are still married, make sure both of REALLY want to get divorced. It would be a tragedy to get divorced, spend precious money and time going through the K-1 Visa process only to find that you didn't want to leave your spouse or marry the foreign citizen.

  2. STAY ORGANIZED! I suggest that both fiancé(e)s get 3-ring binders and plastic page covers. Keeping all the papers and documents in one place makes things much easier.

  3. Make copies of EVERYTHING and DON'T throw anything away, ESPECIALLY if it's from the INS or Consulate.

  4. Take a day off from work to get everything you need such as passports, certified copies of documents, pictures, police certificates etc. This is very helpful if you have to travel to a different city to get most of those things done.

  5. If possible, get all of the pictures taken at one time to avoid several trips to the photographer. Places like Walmart and Zellars usually have a photo studio in them that should be able to do all photos needed. Some places however can't or wont print 5 identical photos because they like to use Polaroid type cameras that only produce 2 identical photos.

  6. USE THE LISTS! The lists will be very helpful to keep you organized and on track. Print them out and keep them in the 3-ring binder.
