  4. Melissa sent the I-129f to the Nebraska Service Center on October 10, 2001
  5. Received NOA (I-797) January 29, 2001
  6. Received packet from Montreal February 7, 2002
  7. Picked up passport on March 19, 2002
  8. Had medical exam done and got RCMP police certificate May 7, 2002
  9. Sent Checklist back to Montreal May 23, 2002*
  10. Received appointment letter June 7, 2002
  11. Went to interview in Montreal on July10, 2002
  12. Moved to Michigan August 31, 2002
  13. Applied for SS# September 3, 2002
  14. Recieved SS card in the mail September 10, 2002
  15. Got married at the Justice of the Peace October 24, 2002
  16. K-1 visa expired January 9, 2003
  17. Filed form I-485 (AOS) in person. Recieved employment authorization. Febrauary 12, 2003**
  18. Received I-797, (Notice of Action, Welcome to the USA letter) March 5, 2003
  19. Received Permanent Resident Card "green card" March 7, 2003
  20. Form 1-751 will need to be sent to Nebraska Service Center around November 12, 2004

* It took James a while to get all of the required documents and items. If you start getting them BEFORE you receive the packet from Montreal it will save you some time. But be aware that some of the things have to have very recent (a month or so) such as the police certificate and the medical exam.

** Because of uncontrollable circumstances, we were unable to file the AOS before his visa expired. However, we pulled some strings and were able to pull it off . Read about our experience at the AOS page.
